We specialize in old doors, mantels and shutters but we are always interested in acquiring oddities of all kinds, such as old building material, reclaimed lumber, furniture, keys, locks, doorknobs, old bottles, signs, coins and photographs.
STRIPPING (paint removal)
The first step in restoring old building components is to get down to the bare wood…. We use an environmentally friendly procedure of paint removal using care and diligence. Pick up and delivery available to strip all of your building material. Bulk prices for doors, shutters, windows, molding, beaded board, cabinets, baseboard, stair parts, mantels and iron too.
The master craftsmen at The Bank have all of the knowledge and techniques to restore and refurbish all sorts of building components. Doors are patched, plugged and sanded to their original splendor. Locks and knobs are repaired and buffed good as new. Shutters are completely refurbished at a fraction of the cost of replacements. without compromising material or architectural integrity
The Bank offers 48,000 sq. ft. of salvaged building material mostly acquired locally from New Orleans. Find fully refurbished hundred year old cypress doors up to 10’ tall, shutters, mantels, stained glass, brackets, columns and period hardware, completely restored and very fairly priced.
CUSTOM MADE SHUTTERS, DOORS AND MORE
Only the best exterior material is used to make our quality, time tested, architecturally appropriate shutters and doors. We use only historically correct, traditional construction methods.
Our mortice and tenon construction method allows the material to expand and contract with the weather, and can be easily disassembled to replace broken panels and slats. We never use glue or dowels or nylon tippings. Our shutters and doors are made to custom fit any size openings and will last decades with minimal maintenance. Custom made hurricane shutters, elegant pantry doors with iron inserts, louvered closet doors, Caribbean and plantation style panel bottom shutters and doors with applied moldings, arch tops, board n’ battens, fixed or operable louvers. Our typical design layouts are historically correct and pass the rigorous building codes of the Vieaux Carre commission and HDLC. We make replacements for shutters damaged in the French Quarter and the Garden District of historic New Orleans. We have learned the art of new shutter making by disassembling shutters made over a hundred years ago and reproducing the century old construction techniques that have stood the test of time.
Repurposed architectural artifacts furnish and finish your home or office. Our custom-made furniture policy is “if you want it, we will build it”. Peruse our massive inventory of salvaged architectural antiques and imagine a headboard made from a convents staircase or a pair of outhouse shutter doors created into a cabinet for your kitchen. Dig in boxes of old doorknobs for a cool coat rack. We have the pieces and parts, along with the expertise, to make that unique one of a kind piece that is just right for you. We make horizontal cypress panel doors into elegant beds. An old, worn, bullseye cypress coal burning mantel becomes a cool, funky wine bar or kitchen island. A rustic armoire beveled mirror door is made into a hall tree. Reclaimed antique cypress, pine and bargeboard tables, benches and cabinetry. At The Bank you can find what you want and have it made into something you need. Let’s create something wonderful together.
